Two reconstruction operations have maintained functionality in a young mans’ hand.
Following an occupational traumatism and after the specialists of a public hospital in Cluj have told him they can not help with anything, a 28 years young old man was almost left without a finger on his left hand. His case was presented to Dr. Mihai Aşchilian, who included him in the pro bono program as the patients’ income could not cover the costs of a hand reconstruction intervention, the young man had no medical insurance.
In January 2014, C.B. has undergone the first soft tissue defect reconstruction intervention by flap transplantation. A month later, doctor Aşchilian performed another similar operation.
At the end of the six months recovery, the patient will fit a special aesthetic prosthesis that reproduces the perfect look and shape of a nail.
Due to the two reconstruction interventions the finger functionality was maintained and the patient fenced off a physical defect that would have kept him from using his hand in full.
